Asheville City and Buncombe County Public Services employees teamed up and threw down in the kitchen on Oct 18. They made crockpots full of chili - all kinds. Submissions were judged by Chef Mark Rosenstein, Bill Mclement radio host on ESPN 1310 & 970 AM and Jess McCuan, editor at the Asheville Scene.
Bragging Rights were assigned to the following teams:
- Chief Anderson’s Blue Light Special for winning "I Don't Need No Stinkin' Antacids" (BEST Mild)
- The Drip’s (aka Water Dept) for burning it up with the "I Think My sphagus is now perforated" (BEST Hot)
- For the second year in a row Jail House Crock took the “Just Like a Precious Snowflake” MOST UNIQUE prize
- Got Pretrial’s “The Bird is the Word” chili earned the “the rest of y’all just need to go home” BEST OVERALL award!
The event raised $500 for United Way and our work in supporting the Education, Income and Health of Asheville and Buncombe County.
