Since fall of 2016, United Way has worked in partnership with Asheville Middle School to create a community support network for the students and families. The resource coordinator and support staff are based at Asheville Middle in order to foster and organize strong relationships with both partner agencies and individual volunteers. They work closely with school leadership and staff to ensure that resources are leveraged and volunteers are recruited to meet the unique needs of the school, the students and their families, as well as the surrounding communities.

Successful Students

A major part of our work is to support student success at Asheville Middle. One way we do so is by connecting committed community volunteers to serve as a tutor, a lunch buddy or a breakfast buddy for individual students or small groups of students. Homework Diners

Homework Diners will continue this fall at Asheville Middle starting on Tuesday, September 26. They will run every Tuesday from 9/25/2018 through 12/11/2018 and start back up again in the second semester. Homework Diners are a weekly family engagement events where families receive a free meal and homework support from teachers and volunteers. This is a great opportunity to form long-term relationships with students and their families and have a positive impact on their lives.
