Chairman's
Message
Dear Friends and Colleagues:
In the past, towns were small, and people knew that, in the event of a disaster, friends and neighbors would be there to help with food, time and charity. Today our town is larger and people are busier. It is hard to know our neighbors several streets away, let alone across town. Luckily United Way helps individuals in the community reach out and care for their neighbors in need.
The beneficiaries of your United Way support are our local community members—children who are hungry; young people whose lives can be enriched and made more productive; men and women needing health care; and the fragile elderly. United Way of Asheville and Buncombe County provides an efficient way to channel our assistance to our Buncombe County’s most effective health and human service programs.
Each year residents of Buncombe County volunteer thousands of hours, providing legal aid, leading Girl Scout troops, preparing food for the hungry, and performing a multitude of other services that make our community a better place in which to live. Donations to the United Way are also vital to build the infrastructure and provide the materials and supplies that buttress those volunteer efforts.
I am proud to be part of our United Way’s 86-year tradition of serving our community. I truly believe that supporting United Way is the best way to help the most people in Buncombe County With its focus on critical issues like helping children and families succeed, promoting independence and stability, and improving people’s health, United Way funds the programs that make our community better and stronger for us all.
