Last week, a dozen Highlands Circle members participated in a We Care! Experience here at United Way of Asheville and Buncombe County, creating 96 snack packs for Middle School students.
United Way believes that great things happen when we LIVE UNITED. We know we can accomplish more together, as a community, than we can alone. This past Friday we celebrated another year of hard work, and accomplishments, by hosting a luncheon for the partners that are leading the way through our Middle School Success Initiative.
When you sit down and listen to people tell their story, you find out all kinds of amazing things. That’s what happened when our team of AmeriCorps VISTA members at Erwin Middle School began interviewing key members of the Erwin school community. Every few days, they sit down with faculty and staff to ask them what encouraged them to become teachers and what motivates them each and every day. The first three staff that they interviewed are showcased below.
“One street from where you woke up this morning, someone is calling 2-1-1.”
That’s how this year’s LIVE UNITED Celebration opened, with a powerful message of how United Way of Asheville and Buncombe County is working towards our mission each and every day. In the hour that we were together, we celebrated the financial gifts and the hours of volunteer work that our partners and volunteers have contributed, and honored the partnerships that have strengthened our community.
