Michelle was ready to go back to school and finish her bachelor’s degree. Like so many others, Michelle had started college but her plans were sidelined by family health emergencies, financial setbacks and the birth of her beautiful daughter.
Seven years passed, and Michelle knows she will have more opportunities for advancement with her employer - if she finishes her degree. Michelle is the sole caretaker for her daughter and grandmother and she called 2-1-1 looking for resources to help with the care of both.
After speaking with a referral specialist, Michelle now had a list of resources - including information on financial aid, an adult day care center, childcare expense assistance and an emergency drop in child care program. Michelle knows some resources have a very long waiting list, but she’s starting the process and that feels good.
Close to 6,000 people in Buncombe County called 2-1-1 for help with Education, Employment and Childcare assistance last year.
