With the first day of summer quickly approaching, the possibilities to get outside and explore in western North Carolina are endless. One practice you may not be able to enjoy in community outside as often as you'd like, will now be added to the list of activities as well--yoga. Asheville Yoga Center is excited to lead series of classes outdoors this summer for their 6th Annual Yoga in the Park series, running once a month from June-September. We’re honored to share that they have also chosen United Way of Asheville & Buncombe County as well as Homeward Bound as the recipients of funds raised from these donation-based classes held in Pack Square Park at 10 a.m. on the Saturday's listed below June-September, 2018.

"Yoga in the Park provides us with the opportunity to practice yoga away from our brick and mortar establishment and engage with our community in an outdoor setting,” shared Ashley Annin of Asheville Yoga Center. By practicing yoga in the heart of Downtown Asheville, we are able to share our love of yoga while simultaneously raising funds and awareness for the nonprofits and causes that we are passionate about."

We’re honored to be chosen as a recipient of these community funds. Asheville Yoga Center teachers are so giving of their time and talents in Asheville. In fact, last summer they helped our Resource Coordinator Linnea Burgevin at Erwin Middle School when she reached out to them and said she had a teacher at the school interested in starting a yoga club. They collected 16 mats and $322 in cash to help make that happen. They also recently gathered as a team to share their time during Hands-On Asheville Buncombe’s Spring Days of Impact, helping to sort and clean at the Asheville Buncombe Christian Ministries resource center, where they hold donated items and make them available to community members in need. "As a small business, we do not have the resources or bandwidth to contribute to all of the local nonprofits that we would like to support,” said Annin. “That’s why we are so grateful to partner with United Way — it allows us to give back to our community on a larger scale than we are capable of achieving on our own."
