Developmental Assets

The Search Institute's Developmental Assets are 40 building blocks of development that help young people grow up healthy, caring and responsible. These common sense, positive experiences and qualities help influence choices young people make.

By training members of our community to build these assets, we will be able to positively impact the lives of our youth.

We have already successfully trained more than 100 members of the community (youth development, nonprofit, government and law enforcement professionals) to recognize the developmental assets and focus on increasing the assets of the youth.

Research shows young people who have 30 or more of these assets are more likely to be successful in school and life and less likely to engage in risky behaviors. Once you know about the assets, it’s incredibly simple to incorporate them into your relationships with youth.
