In 2014, the board of United Way of Asheville and Buncombe County made a committment to building strong community support at four middle schools using the community school strategy. Learn more about each:

Homework Diners are weekly family engagement events that allow students and families to receive homework support from paid teachers and volunteer tutors and a free meal for the whole family. They currently take place at four area middle schools: Asheville, Enka, Erwin and Owen. Homework Diners are open to any family with a K-12 student in the surrounding school district. Attendees will also have a chance to learn about community resources and take advantage of a variety of educational programs at these events. Homework Diners take place weekly (except on school holidays or half days):
  • Asheville Middle School,  5 - 7pm on Tuesdays from Sept 25 - Dec 11
  • Enka Middle School, 5:30 - 7 pm on Tuesdays from Sept 25 - Dec 11
  • Erwin Middle School, 5:30 - 7 pm on Mondays from Sept 24 - Dec 10
