Each month at United Way of Asheville and Buncombe County, we highlight and interview one of our incredible staff members. This month we are interviewing Lisa Ross, our Donor Analytics & Administration Manager.
Why are you in nonprofit work? Lisa works in nonprofit because it is a tangible way for her to live her beliefs of being there for your neighbors and community.
What inspires you to LIVEUNITED? Give. Advocate. Volunteer. How can you not be inspired by those actions!
Do you volunteer? Where? Why? I have volunteered at The Room in the Inn (RITI) for many years. RITI is a Homeward Bound program that is their only shelter option for 12 women who, for a variety of reasons, can’t stay at a shelter. I believe that with just a couple of missteps most of us are potentially paychecks away from being homeless or without a job. By recognizing that this could easily happen, it seems really important to share some time and an enjoyable meal with those in need.
Who is a hero of yours and why? My heroes are my co-workers. United Way of Asheville and Buncombe is filled with so many great people that do such AWESOME work that they are able to spur and encourage each other to do greater things in the community.
What’s something quirky/weird/funny/amazing about you outside of work? I enjoy comics so much that I take pictures of them and sends them to friends, co-workers and loved ones. I have more comics on her phone than pictures of anything else. And. I've attended a pun fest, which is an entire day of non-stop puns, in Austin, TX. I am also fascinated by descriptive obituaries and have been know to post them on my bulletin board.
