In partnership with Asheville Middle School (AMS), United Way of Asheville and Buncombe County (UWABC) seeks a local community organization to coordinate a Parent Leadership Program at Asheville Middle School. The program will be piloted in the spring of 2017 with plans to continue long-term.
What is a Parent Leadership Program?
The Parent Leadership Program is an evidenced-based and equity-focused initiative designed to build and encourage strong school and parent/family partnerships. The program will engage and support parents from low-income communities and neighborhoods who have often felt disengaged and/or disconnected from their school community. Other hallmarks of the program include:
- Improved parent-teacher relationships
- Increased number and diversity of adult role-models/caring adults in the school
- Increased volunteer support for teachers at AMS
- Increased parent voice and leadership on AMS teams and committees
- Improved school-community relationships and support

United Way will host two information sessions for interested applicants to learn more about this opportunity: from 5:30-6:30 p.m. on October 30 and 12-1 p.m. on October 31. Both sessions will be held at Asheville Middle School, 211 S. French Broad Ave, Asheville. Light refreshments will be served.
