Volunteers with tremendous knowledge in Education, Income and Health oversee a competitive grant process in which the most effective community partners whose results best align with the changes our community needs to see receive United Way investments.

United Way of Asheville and Buncombe County helps you take collective action through Giving, Advocating and Volunteering in the areas of Education, Income and Health. In addition, you support the work of United Way's NC 2-1-1 - Asheville Center, Hands On Asheville-Buncombe and our Middle School Success initiative.

This is your chance to be part of real change in our community.

When youth drop out of high school, their chance of employment is 50 percent. If they find work, their income is 60 percent of their peers who graduate. Their chance of incarceration is six times greater than high school graduates.

Without an education, financial self-sufficiency is a challenge and access to healthcare is daunting. Education, Income and Health - they are all connected.

Food pantries serve one in six area residents. The rate of uninsured adults in Buncombe County is above state and national averages. Abuse and violence still threaten too many.

What happens to them matters to you. Your futures are intertwined.

  • Many children do not move successfully from kindergarten through high school graduation. That impacts all of us.
  • Many people are not financially stable. That impacts all of us.
  • Not all people, homes and communities are safe. That impacts all of us.

Yes, the needs are great. but there are solutions, and you have a stake in making them happen.
