Two weeks remain before the April 15 deadline for filing your federal income tax return. We know taxes can be tough, especially for people who aren't sure which deductions they qualify for, whose first language isn’t English, or who have trouble because of their age or a disability. The NC 2-1-1 Asheville Center can connect you to more than 18,000 services throughout the state including financial education and tax preparation assistance.
- Through the Voluntary Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program, State Employees Credit Union can help you file a free tax return if you have a 2013 household income of $57,000 or less. Walk-in to any branch of SECU in Buncombe County, drop off your tax information and a volunteer will complete in three business days. The last day to drop off is Friday, April 11. More information can be found on NC 2-1-1's website.
- Four AARP Tax Aide sites are open throughout Buncombe County on a walk-in basis on different days through April 15. Sites are located in Black Mountain, Downtown Asheville, Weaverville and West Asheville.
If you are unable to visit one the sites listed above and have a 2013 household income of $57,000 or less, you can file online for free at MyFreeTaxes.com.
