Downtown After 5 is Asheville’s biggest party — and NC 2-1-1 is part of the fun this year! The Asheville Downtown Association chose NC 2-1-1 Asheville Center as the charity partner for the July 18 concert featuring Hayes Carll and Chatham County Line. NC 2-1-1 will receive a grant of up to $2,000 in exchange for selling wristbands to attendees. 36 volunteers are needed to verify the ages of those purchasing the wristbands. It's a great opportunity to volunteer with others who support this important community resource. Volunteer shifts are only two hours long (4:45-7:00pm and 7:00-9:15pm) and you can enjoy the music while you're helping out. Click here to volunteer.

What is 2-1-1?

NC 2-1-1 is United Way's community service information line that links people with health and human services. Marla Browne, Director of NC 2-1-1 Asheville Center, said, “This opportunity is two-fold for 2-1-1. We’ll build awareness of the services 2-1-1 provides, while raising money in a fun environment. We’re thrilled to be among the other great organizations selected.”

NC 2-1-1 Asheville Center is part of the nationwide 2-1-1 network and provides information and referral services to seven counties in western North Carolina. Ten years ago, the Asheville center was the first North Carolina agency (and only fifteenth in the nation) to receive accreditation from the Alliance of Information and Referral Systems (AIRS), signifying commitment to the highest standards and quality of service. Recently, the center was awarded its third consecutive five-year accreditation. During the process, the NC 2-1-1 Asheville Center was recognized for three best practices that will be added to the AIRS I&R ToolKit for use by other information and referral services throughout the United States and Canada.

Downtown After 5

This summer marks the 26th anniversary season of Downtown After 5. Since the wristband grant program was initiated in 2006, over $75,000 in funds have been raised for local charities. Downtown After 5 is a product of the Asheville Downtown Association, which is a nonprofit dedicated to bringing people to downtown Asheville to help the central business district.
