Meet the New Enka Middle Community School Staff

You are here

Alex Woodhouse and Sam Fontaine are the new Enka Middle Community School staff for the 2014-2015 school. They'll serve as the full-time staff members for one year through the Americorps VISTA program. One of last year's staff members, Anna Gettles, sat down with Alex and Sam to find out a little bit more about them. You can also read about Anna's year at Enka Middle online.

Alex Woodhouse is the new Student Success Coordinator, taking the place of Kristen Muscaro. She's the go-to person to coordinate volunteer assistance in classrooms, to help start a club, or for volunteering with an after school opportunity. Alex has spent the past year working as an intern teaching and coaching at an international middle school in Germany and is excited to bring her experiences back to the States.

As Student Success Coordinator, Alex will be:

  • Developing, managing and implementing free after school programming for students
  • Coordinating school-day classroom volunteers
  • Connecting students to vital resources

Sam Fontaine will fill Anna's role from last year, Community Engagement Coordinator. He'll coordinate with Enka Middle School staff in accessing community resources or ideas for fun parent-community activities. Sam is a recent graduate of UNC Asheville and an avid Ultimate Frisbee enthusiast.

As Community Engagement Coordinator, Sam will be:

  • Developing and implementing free evening programs for Enka families and community members
  • Assessing school and community strengths and needs
  • Strengthening parent and community involvement at Enka Middle School

Enka Middle Community School is entering its third school year. Through sports, clubs and extracurricular activities—as well as family nights and community workshops—the community school supports and empowers students throughout their transition to middle school and into ninth grade. Enka Middle Community School's strength lies in our partnership with school staff and the flow of resources from the community into the school and back into the community.
