We've had some exciting news brewing for the past few weeks and we're ready to pour it out! We've partnered with Asheville Brewing Company on a benefit beer. The first keg will be tapped at 5 p.m. on September 4 at The Millroom (66 Asheland Avenue in downtown Asheville). United Way Pale Ale will then be available at the brewing company's two tasting rooms throughout September until it's gone.
Tell Me About the Beer!
"It's a very approachable pale ale that Buncombe County beer fans will enjoy," head brewer Doug Riley tells us. "It's not too hoppy, not too malty."
The brew is just over 5.0% alcohol by volume and features the spicy aroma and flavor of Smoking Cascade hops. Friends and supporters of United Way should expect to treat themselves to a complex, medium-bodied beer.
A United Partnership
Though we encourage everyone to enjoy the limited-edition beer several times while it's available, the community is invited to the beer release party on Thursday, September 4 from 5-7 p.m. at The Millroom. General admission tickets to the family-friendly event are $5.00 and include a drink ticket and appetizers. A limited number of $10.00 tickets include a commemorative pint glass, a drink ticket and appetizers.
A drawing will include door prizes such as a VIP pack to Downtown After 5, beer gear from Oowee Products, apparel from Hop Head Wear, a schwag bag from Oskar Blues, four seats on the Amazing Pubcycle and a signed copy of Asheville Beer: An Intoxicating History of Mountain Brewing by Anne Fitten Glenn.
"Brewing has become important to the economy and identity of Asheville and Buncombe County," says David Bailey, United Way of Asheville and Buncombe County's President/CEO. "This collaboration with Asheville Brewing Company highlights the generosity and giving nature of the industry—and, really, the people of this great community."
What Does United Way Do?
United Way of Asheville and Buncombe County has the vision to make our community—one of the best places to live on the planet—a better place to live for all of its residents. By working with nonprofit partners, area businesses, community leaders and a corps of volunteers, we realize we are not alone in our journeys. We all have a stake in our neighbors' success and what happens to them matters to all of us. United Way is about local giving with local impact. Because great things happen when we LIVE UNITED!
Asheville Brewing Company has been brewing some of the best ales since 1998 and is one of the oldest breweries in Buncombe County. Fans of great handcrafted micro brewed beer can enjoy a year-round lineup that includes Shiva IPA, Rolands ESB, Rocket Girl, Ninja Porter and more. A brewer series is made up of limited edition seasonal (and sometimes one-off) beers that push the paradigm and often become the preferred pint at the table.
