With your help, we're able to make sure kids and teens in our community are ready to learn on the first day of classes. Each year, you've given a little more or helped us spread the word and the annual Back to School Supply Drive has grown in success. When all is said and done, we'll have sent more than 1,350 fully-stocked backpacks to students in our community than any other year.
We're able to get these school supplies and backpacks to students through community partners. One of them is Caring for Children. When Terri Bowman, Director of Development, came to pick up the bags they'll distribute over the next few days, she wanted to let all of you know what your generosity means.
Students not being served by one of the organizations listed below can contact Jessica Stavish with The Salvation Army Boys and Girls Club at (828) 255-0266 to secure a backpack. Pickups will be arranged by appointment only.
Other community partners that will distribute these supplies to students include Asheville City Schools: Homebase Program for Homeless Students, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Western North Carolina, Buncombe County Schools: Youth In Transition Support for Homeless Students, Buncombe County Schools: Migrant Education Program, Caring for Children, Children First/Communities in Schools of Buncombe County, Literacy Council of Buncombe County, The Salvation Army, and YMCA: 21st Century Afterschool Program.
