Michael Cortes, one of our Highlands Circle members, is a commercial banker with TD Bank. He has lived in Asheville for 5 years. He and his wife Marilyn and have a 3 year old son, William, and a daughter who will be born this February.
Why are you involved with United Way of Asheville and Buncombe County? I I've been involved with UW since I moved to Asheville because I trust how they elevate our community.
What makes you smile? Happy Children.
What small act of kindness were you once shown that you will never forget? A great manager once took a chance on me when I didn't have the confidence in myself.
What activities make you lose track of time? Woodworking and playing trumpet.
What's something new you recently learned about yourself? Though I am very outgoing and enjoy being around people, I re-energize by being alone.
What three questions do you wish you had the answers to? What is the purpose of life? What will tomorrow bring? Will everything be ok?
Lessons learned from Highlands Circle that have benefited your career? Surround myself with like-minded, goal-oriented people.
Favorite Motivational Quote? To lead an orchestra, one must turn his back on the crowd.
If you could give one piece of advice to a large group, what would it be? Don't take yourself so seriously.
