HIGHLANDS CIRCLE SPOTLIGHT: ANGI WEST

You are here

Angi West is a Senior Associate with DHG and has been an engaged member of Highlands Circle for two years and a United Way supporter for four years. .

Why are you involved with United Way of Asheville and Buncombe County? We all live in this community together and together we can make a big impact. Who doesn't want children fed, high school graduation rates to increase and a chance for people to have a comfy home to return to each day? I can't make any of these things a reality on my own but I can as a par to United Way!

What do you do? After a brief career as a musician, I realized I preferred a more ordered and punctual life and became a CPA. Though I still enjoy writing and recording songs I prefer to do so as a passion, rather than as a job. As a CPA, I work mostly with families and their fascinating and multifaceted businesses. I love the challenges that each new day brings.

What makes you smile? I just watched an amazing video produced by the forest service about Hell Benders.

What small act of kindness were you once shown that you will never forget? I have an amazing friend who writes a song for me on my birthday every year. It is such a powerful gift of thoughtfulness and talent.

What activities make you lose track of time? Messing around in the garden: weeding, thinning, planting.

What's something new you recently learned about yourself? I am very stubborn.

What three questions do you wish you had the answers to? I am not sure I have questions I really need answering. Let the mysteries be.

Lessons learned from Highlands Circle that have benefited your career? We are an in tune and vibrant community of young professionals and I don't think I was really aware of that until I joined Highland Circle.

Favorite Motivational Quote? I am not sure I could give you a favorite but this quote of Rilke's is pertinent to my life thesedays:" Live your questions now, and perhaps even without knowing it, you will live along some distant day into your answers."

If you could give one piece of advice to a large group, what would it be? Life is a very difficult journey a lot of the time but try and make it look easy...be a ballerina.
