Leadership
Giving Societies
In 1984, a few key volunteers had the foresight to establish a means to recognize those individuals and couples who give back to their community through United Way of Asheville and Buncombe County with a contribution of $1000 or more. That first year saw 67 members meet that challenge and the Peaks Society was born. Today, more than 1,200 members strong, the leadership giving societies are broken down even further into:

The Tocqueville Society - made up of individuals and couples who give $10,000 or more annualy.
The Peaks Society - made up of individuals and couple who give $1,000 or more annually and
The Highlands Circle - made up of emerging philanthropists 40 years of age and younger who give $1000 or more to United Way annually.
