Community
Fund Overview
Every year United Way raises money in our community to change
people’s lives. Many people give through United Way’s
Community Fund. Community Fund dollars are directed by volunteers
to fund some of our community’s most important nonprofit
health and human service programs. The backbone of the Community
Fund is the Funding Council system.
United Way has seven Funding Councils, each of which focuses
on an issue area through which United Way can make lasting
changes in our community. Funding Council members are community
volunteers with expertise in the Council's priority area.
Each Funding Council reviews programs addressing their particular
issue area and funds those programs that provide the best outcomes
for clients and do so in an efficient, effective, and accountable
manner.
In 2008 - 2009 United Way dollars are helping 88 programs
overseen by 40 nonprofit agencies or public institutions. Please follow one of the
links on the left to learn what specific programs receive funding
under each of the seven funding councils.
