Highlands Circle Spotlight: Lindsay Stalowy

Lindsay Stalowy is an HR Professional in the Asheville office of Dixon Hughes Goodman. She's been involved with United Way's Highlands Circle since 2014.
Why are you involved with United Way of Asheville and Buncombe County? I firmly believe that the only way to make a positive change in the world is through service in my local community.

What makes you smile? My son and my family!

What small act of kindness were you once shown that you will never forget? After my brother died suddenly, my neighbors got together and cleaned our house and cooked us meals.

What activities make you lose track of time? Running through the woods! Oh, how I can run for hours and hours!

What's something new you recently learned about yourself? That I'm helplessly sentimental and deeply loyal.

What three questions do you wish you had the answers to?

  •     Why can't my mom figure out her iPhone?
  •     What would Martin Luther King Jr. say about recent events?
  •     How do we fix our schools?
Lessons learned from Highlands Circle that have benefited your career? The biggest lesson I've learned is how small our community is and how a little service can go a long way!

Favorite Motivational Quote? This is my family’s Mantra and it’s from Gandhi: In the end only three things matter: how much you loved, how gently you lived, and how gracefully you let go of things not meant for you.

If you could give one piece of advice to a large group, what would it be? Smile! Studies have shown that, during long races, if you smile you are more likely to finish strong.

Each month, we shine a spotlight on a member of Highlands Circle, a group for leaders in their 20s and 30s. If you are interested in being highlighted, please contact Kristina.Dionne@UnitedWayABC.org or call (828) 239-1049.
