Summer Volunteer Opportunities in Asheville
With summer in full swing, there are endless opportunities to enjoy the outdoors while getting involved in community service projects that allow you to experience new parts of our city and county while meeting new people. Our volunteer center, Hands On Asheville-Buncombe, makes it easy to get involved with local nonprofit organizations.
With hundreds of opportunities available each month, it's easy to connect with a cause that fits your interests and schedule. Just last year, in 2018, Hands On placed 2,400 unique volunteers at over 70 organizations, providing a total of 9,000 hours of volunteer service in our community. We’ve pulled a handful of the fun outdoor volunteer opportunities available for you to consider getting involved with either individually or with a group.

Get Hands On in our Community with these fun Volunteer Opportunities:
- Lend a hand with The Energy Savers Network and help fellow Buncombe County residents on a limited income improve their homes by helping them to make them more energy-efficient. No special equipment or skill-set required as all volunteers are trained on-site. Learn more and find a time to lend a helping hand with the Energy Savers Network.
- Facilitate a gardening project and help beautify the outdoor space at Mountain Care’s Adult Day, a safe and enjoyable place for aging and impaired adults. They have a beautiful outdoor garden space and would love help with planting, weeding, watering, and garden design in a space they use for meditation, and relaxation. - Eliada Homes is in need of weekday volunteers to support their Therapeutic Animal Stewardship Cooperative program. Volunteers can participate in general barn/stall cleaning and horse grooming/care activities. There is no specific time commitment required. Lend a hand outdoors surrounded by pigs, goats, a llama and more with Eliada Homes.
- Help facilitate weekly learning lessons around bullying and positive self-talk as a mentor with Girls on the Run of Western North Carolina. You’ll work within a group alongside other coaches to meet with a small group of girls at a local school facilitating conversations and lesson plans around specific topics, finished with a walk or run and culminating in a 5K race in December. - Live in East Asheville and looking for a family-friendly way to get your hands dirty? Join Verner Center for Early Learning parents, families and volunteers to dig in at their beautiful garden. Children of all ages are encouraged to join in the fun. Learn more and get involved at Verner Center for Early Learning.
- Children First Communities in Schools welcomes youth groups for hands-on outdoor projects. Learn more and register your group for a fun day of giving back outdoors together through Children First.
