Nancy Horowitz is a Sales Executive with Galaxy Digital. She's also a member of Women's Leadership Council, a network of passionate and influential women focused on supporting the Middle School Success initiative. We get to know her a little better in this month's WLC Spotlight.
What’s the most valuable lesson you’ve learned during your career? Setting expectations and following-up accordingly is so important. For most of my career, I helped people find jobs and that required a hand holding process. I always tried to put myself in their shoes and that meant getting back to a candidate regardless of the feedback or sometimes even lack thereof.
What is your favorite quote or motto? Oh, I have a few…
“And the day came when the risk to remain tight in a bud was more painful than the risk it took to blossom.” — Anaïs Nin
“Change happens when ordinary people do extraordinary things.”
“I don’t believe in miracles, I count on them.”
I know I have more, but that’ll do for now!
Why do you volunteer and donate to United Way? Unfortunately, there is a need. If the little time and resources I have can make a difference, I will do what I can. My children know I volunteer, we talk about it, and they participate when appropriate. They know it’s a part of who I am and hopefully it will be a part of who they will become.
What is the best advice you have ever gotten? “There is always another opportunity, you just have to keep on knocking.” My Papa was a salesman and in the traditional sense of the word; he literally went to homes and knocked on doors. I often called him to talk about work and when the first recession hit, I picked up the phone for inspiration. I received more of just a pick me for the day, but words I have applied to many aspects of my life.
What qualities do you most admire in business professionals? Trust, communication, support, and follow-through.
What is the best advice you can offer to young women and young men as they start their careers? Combine your strengths and likes with a passion, think about the big picture, but know your path is not a straight one.
