MLK Jr. Day of Service Asheville Buncombe

This year Hands On will be coordinating a special inter-generational service event with Land of Sky Regional Council Senior Corps!  The event, held at Eliada, will include multiple stations where volunteers can participate in projects that directly support local nonprofits and the community members they serve. Volunteers will have the opportunity to create:

  • -  simple no-sew fleece blankets for Project Linus clients
  • -  math skills flashcards/games for Buncombe County School elementary students
  • -  handcrafted cards of encouragement for local Veterans and homebound seniors
  • -  and more!

The MLK Jr. Day of Service is a way to transform Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.'s life and teachings into community action that helps solve social problems. On this day, Americans of every age and background celebrate Dr. King through service projects that strengthen communities, empower individuals, bridge barriers, and create solutions. MLK Jr. Day is an opportunity for our community to answer Dr. King's question, "What are you doing for others?"

Annually, Hands On Asheville-Buncombe gives volunteers the opportunity to celebrate Dr. King's birthday by participating in various service projects across Asheville and Buncombe County.
