Nicole Vertel

Tell us a little bit about yourself.

Originally from Ohio, I moved to the mountains and fell in love with the Asheville community. My husband and I, along with our German Shorthaired Pointer, enjoy the endless adventures the Blue Ridge Mountains have to offer. With a background in Nutritional Science and Community Health, I have worked with Buncombe County and non-profit organizations locally. I am passionate about creating a healthy and thriving community, which led me to work for the mission of United Way of Asheville and Buncombe County.

Give us a glimpse into your role at United Way. How do you help us fulfill our mission? What are you most excited about accomplishing as a team?

As a Resource Development Manager, I connect people to opportunity. The opportunity for workplaces and individuals to invest in the potential of their community. To provide resources needed for community members to thrive and connect people to support one another.

What’s your favorite thing about our community?

What a unique community we live in, so rich in love and culture. A community that takes care of our own and embraces each others' differences.

What would we find you doing when you aren’t at work?

When I'm not working, you can find me out in the mountains trail running, hiking, or backpacking. I could also be cooking and hosting family and friends. OR you'll find me in a volleyball gym carrying out my passion through coaching.

Do you have any podcast, book, music, or movie recommendations?

On long car rides, my husband and I enjoy listening to two podcasts: How I Built This and The Dirtbag Diaries.
