A record 1,754 fully-stocked backpacks were distributed to local students! At an estimated $35 per bag, the worth of 2016 supply drive donations equals $61,390. That's amazing and here's a bit about how it happened.
On July 28 BorgWarner Turbo Systems employees gave 200 fully stocked backpacks to students and staff of the Salvation Army’s Boys and Girls Club. The Boys and Girls Club is one of nine organizations that will then distribute the backpacks to area families over the course of the next few weeks.
We are excited to announce that our volunteer center, Hands On Asheville-Buncombe, launched their new website this week with help from Galaxy Digital, a local Asheville-based company. Galaxy collaborates with United Ways around the country to support community volunteer efforts using their Get Connected database.

Our offices will be closed on Friday, January 19 in observance of Martin Luther King, Jr. Day. However, NC 2-1-1 will still be available 24 hours a day, just as they are 365 days a year. Hands On Asheville-Buncombe will also be coordinating the MLK Jr. Intergenerational Day of Service at Eliada until noon.
