Homework Diners are weekly family engagement events that will take place on Tuesday evenings in the Enka Middle School cafeteria, starting November 15th.
Women United at the Bunn House
On Tuesday evening, October 4th, members of the Women United gathered together for an Evening in the Garden at the Bunn House, a boutique hotel in downtown Asheville.
Surrounded by beautiful scenery, lovely flowers from Blue Ridge Blooms, and delicious hors d'oeuvre catered by HomeGrown, it was a spectacular evening.

WCQS has Partnered with United Way
This year, during their annual fall fund drive, WCQS has a simple goal, no interruptions, and every gift matched! Western North Carolina’s public radio station is raising $200,000 by September 21st without interrupting programming and while they do it, they are raising awareness and money for our work here at United Way.
A Day In the Life: Resource Coordinators
In the fall, we placed our first full-time Resource Coordinator at Enka Middle School. This coordinator soon found an opportunity to serve kids who weren’t able to attend after school programming because of a lack of transportation. Many of these students arrive, by bus, 45 minutes before school starts and for the most part, wait in the cafeteria until classes begin.

News of Don Locke's passing is still incomprehensible to a community that drew strength from his loving spirit, his welcoming smile and his fierce commitment to social justice. Our heartfelt condolences to Don's wife Marjorie, his daughters and all who loved him. You can read his obituary here.

United Way of Asheville and Buncombe County is pleased to announce being named as the recipient of a $50,000 grant through NobleCause, a grant competition mobilizing volunteers to address the greatest challenges facing their communities.
Seven awards of $50,000 were available to organizations working to assemble partners to develop volunteer leaders to work toward multiplying the number of volunteers needed to address significant local issues.

Last week, Highland's Circle held a fantastic event, Social on the Stage, at Diana Wortham Theatre. With a networking icebreaker from Chad Littlefield, the co-founder of We!™, and food and drinks provided by Diamond Brand, attendees had a great time!

An A to the recent MLK Breakfast and specifically the remarks of their keynote speaker: Rodney Johnson. Johnson gave a personal and poignant talk about growing up in Asheville - opening the curtains to the challenges and uniqueness of being an African-American living in Asheville in the 1950s through the early 1980s.
