WCQS has Partnered with United Way

This year, during their annual fall fund drive, WCQS has a simple goal, no interruptions, and every gift matched! Western North Carolina’s public radio station is raising $200,000 by September 21st without interrupting programming and while they do it, they are raising awareness and money for our work here at United Way.

United Way of Asheville and Buncombe County is pleased to announce being named as the recipient of a $50,000 grant through NobleCause, a grant competition mobilizing volunteers to address the greatest challenges facing their communities.

Seven awards of $50,000 were available to organizations working to assemble partners to develop volunteer leaders to work toward multiplying the number of volunteers needed to address significant local issues.

An A to the recent MLK Breakfast and specifically the remarks of their keynote speaker: Rodney Johnson. Johnson gave a personal and poignant talk about growing up in Asheville - opening the curtains to the challenges and uniqueness of being an African-American living in Asheville in the 1950s through the early 1980s.
