The Fall Convening of the Asheville Buncombe Middle Grades Network was held at UNC Asheville on November 1st, 2018. This annual event brought together 150 community members representing Asheville City Schools, Buncombe County Schools, University of North Carolina Asheville and over 50 health, social service, higher education and youth services community partners.
The theme of this year’s convening was Uplifting Student and Parent Voice and Leadership and featured a panel of local middle school students and parents who are taking the initiative and using their leadership skills to help ensure that our community schools are safe, welcoming and compassionate for ALL families.
We were joined by Jose Muñoz, Director of the National Coalition for Community Schools, Principal Chris Battaglia and Dante DeTablan of the national award-winning Ben Franklin Community School in Baltimore, Maryland and Janel George of the Learning Policy Institute.
