Ways To Give

Investing In Our Future

Incredible scenery, a booming food scene, and a rich tradition of arts, music, and culture. There are many reasons why we choose to call this place home. The one thing we all agree upon is that it's worth investing in. We know you have a choice when it comes to giving and we take every investment very seriously.

We also know that generosity comes in many forms. Whether you're making a gift through your IRA or as part of your planned legacy, your support is helping to build a stronger, more equitable, more resilient community where everyone belongs and everyone thrives.

Beyond Individual Giving

While individual giving remains the foundation upon which we're built, there is a myriad of other investment types that support the work of United Way. We invite you to explore the options that work best for you, your business, or your organization below. For detailed information, please contact Kevin Montgomery, 828.239.1047.

Planned Giving

Interested in powering the impact of United Way into the future? A simple, flexible, and versatile way is to make a planned gift through a retirement plan, an insurance plan, or a charitable bequest. A charitable bequest to United Way can be added to your will or living trust in as little as one sentence and will allow our Board of Directors to steward your final gift for its greatest impact. Or choose to direct your contribution to the David Bailey Legacy Endowment to ensure that your annual gift is sustained in perpetuity. (TAX ID/EIN# 56-0576157).

Please let us know if you have already made provisions for United Way in your estate plan so we may acknowledge your commitment in United Way's Legacy Giving Society. Connect with Kevin Montgomery for more information. He and a member of our Planned Giving Committee would be happy to meet with you.

Honorary/Memorial Gifts

Honorary or memorial gifts provide a unique and lasting way to commemorate a milestone, a special occasion, or to honor someone's memory with a gift. Such gifts not only show thoughtfulness and consideration for the individual and their family but also help make this community a better place through United Way. Stocks & Securities

Donating stocks and securities is easy to do and can make a huge impact on the lives of people in this community. Giving appreciated securities is a tax-wise way to support United Way. For securities held longer than one year, you can deduct their full fair market value, regardless of what you originally paid for them, and avoid paying capital gains tax.

Be sure you, or your broker, provide your name and address to United Way, the name and number of securities transferred, and the approximate stock valuation on the date of transfer (TAX ID/EIN# 56-0576157).

IRA Charitable Rollovers

Using your traditional IRA to make a charitable gift to United Way offers you the opportunity to play a role in strengthening this community while also receiving important personal tax benefits. If you are at least 70 1/2 years old, you can make an annual contribution of up to $100,000 from your IRA directly to a qualified nonprofit organization such as United Way. Your IRA contribution allows you to satisfy all or part of your required minimum distribution - tax-free (TAX ID/EIN# 56-0576157).

The idea that a rising tide lifts all boats is at the heart of United Way's commitment. When all of our neighbors succeed, the entire community benefits. That same vision carries over to our corporate sponsorships.

United Way workplace campaigns unite employees in all offices or branches of a company, and give them the opportunity to donate, volunteer, and speak out for causes that matter to them. Funds raised stay local, so you can see the results right here in our own backyard.

Workplace giving is about more than raising money for worthy causes, it also strengthens connections between employees and their community, while creating a workplace culture that enhances morale and retains top-tiered talent.

More importantly, workplace campaigns are creative, fun, and a great way to engage your employees while supporting the place where we live, work, and raise our families.
