New Mural for Asheville

As the community of Asheville and Buncombe County looks forward to the near completion of a beautiful 16-panel mural on the United Way of Asheville and Buncombe County building, we are filled with excitement and pride. This stunning work of art was created by local artist Jenny Pickens, a self-taught talent hailing from right here in Asheville.

From the very beginning, Pickens's proposal for the mural was deeply personal and representative of our community. She wanted to capture the essence of Buncombe County now and the inclusive and thriving community we are working towards. It is no wonder that we have been eager to have a local artist bring this vision to life. The mural, which is now almost complete, features a brightly colored outdoor neighborhood scene that represents the fully inclusive and thriving Buncombe County that we are all working towards.

It was important to the United Way to have a local artist create this work of art, not only because of the talent and creativity that they bring to the project but also because it helps to support and celebrate the artistic community in our area. The United Way is committed to supporting and uplifting all members of our community, and commissioning this mural was just one way we could do so.

As the mural nears completion, we are excited to invite the community to come and take a look at this beautiful work of art. When you drive by the United Way building, you will be struck by the vibrant colors and the charming outdoor neighborhood scene depicted in the mural. It is truly a sight to behold, and we cannot wait to celebrate the hard work and talent of Picken’s at an event in the near future. We hope that this mural will inspire and uplift all who see it, and serve as a reminder of the bright and inclusive future that we are working towards as a community.
