Tell us a little bit about yourself.
Born in Rutherfordton and raised in Asheville, I'm a rare WNC native. I would describe myself as a balanced, healthy plate of introvert and extrovert with a side of humor and level-headedness on the side. People that know me well call me Monty or Doc Monty from my military background as a medic. But don't worry, I answer to Kevin also. I joined the United Way team in 2001.
Give us a glimpse into your role at United Way. How do you help us fulfill our mission? What are you most excited about accomplishing as a team?
I see myself as a person who provides individuals and organizations with an opportunity to connect and support the needs of the community through United Way. My official title is VP of Resource Development and I manage a team of 5 passionate and skilled Resource Development professionals. My day-to-day responsibilities other than being an executive leadership team member and overseeing my team is primarily about growing, diversifying, and sustaining support for UWABC's work as it relates to our strategic plan. Fundraising itself can be rewarding, but I'm most excited about my team's ability to build long-term relationships; Field of Dreams - If you build it, they will come.
What’s your favorite thing about our community?
Other than the great food, mountain air, and the fact that it's my home town. I'll stop right there.
What would we find you doing when you aren’t at work?
Watching sports or a movie. Grilling something with a drink in hand. Exercising, gardening, yard work, or hanging with fam.
Do you have any podcast, book, music, or movie recommendations?
You'll catch me listening to Hip Hop, R&B, and soul on the regular. Probably loud enough to irritate my wife. I recommend Stamped from the Beginning or What Truth Sounds Like for a good read.
Tell us about any committees or associations you are a part of and/or awards/recognitions you’ve received.
