From Buncombe County's Early Childhood Education & Development Committee (ECE):
ECE wants to hear the community's thoughts and experiences with local childcare and support for parents with young children.
This survey is geared toward parents and families with children age five and younger in Buncombe County. Whether they choose childcare outside the home or not, the Committee wants to better understand the specific context parents and guardians face making care choices. The survey is open now through March 20.
“I am proud of the Early Childhood Education & Development Committee’s continuous work to innovate and meaningfully deploy these funds,” said Commissioner and ECE Chair Martin Moore. “Our children’s futures, community’s future, and our workforce depend on strategic use of these funds. As we navigate this process, we want to hear directly from our parents and working families: how can we better support you in the early childhood space?”
With a nearly $4 million local investment this year, the Committee seeks to engage community partners and parents through this initiative. ECE will use data from the survey to make decisions about how and where to invest resources to best serve the Buncombe County early childhood landscape.
Early Childhood Education and Development Fund Through the Years
Buncombe County established an Early Childhood Education and Development Fund for the purpose of advancing the strategic priority to ensure that all children in Buncombe County have an equal opportunity to thrive during their first 2,000 days, including access to quality early childhood education. This fund was established on Oct. 30, 2018, by the Board of Commissioners in its adoption of Resolution #18-10-16, and investments have been made since 2020.
ECE funds various project-based grants focusing on anything from workforce development to behavioral health support, literacy support, teacher pay, technology, classroom supplies, and student nutrition. Ultimately, this committee makes policy and funding recommendations to the Board of Commissioners.
Grant applications for ECE funds are currently open, and organizations should apply by Feb. 20, 2026. See buncombenc.gov/grants for more.
