Close The GAP: Your Input Needed on Sidewalks and Greenways

Submitted by Elisabeth on Mon, 12/21/2020 - 1:20pm

Our friends at the City of Asheville recently reached out to us to ask if we would help to promote two surveys they are conducting about sidewalks and greenways. Please take a moment to fill out one or both of these surveys and ensure that your voice is heard.

Too often communities most impacted by insufficient infrastructure miss out on opportunities that can ensure their experiences and needs are included in citywide planning efforts. After you take the survey(s), be sure to share with your networks.

From the City of Asheville

The City of Asheville is updating the City’s Greenway (G), Accessibility (A), and Pedestrian (P) Plans. The combined plan, known as “Close the GAP”, will be the City’s plan to update and expand the network of accessible sidewalks and greenways in our community.

Please take the general Close the GAP survey and ADA Transition Plan survey (if you have a disability) and be a part of this exciting planning effort.

  • Close the GAP survey This survey addresses sidewalks and greenways in Asheville. It also has questions related to a new initiative for natural surface trails (aka dirt trails) in Asheville.

  • ADA Transition survey This survey addresses accessibility issues within the public right-of-way. Right-of-way is a fancy word for the property the City controls where our streets and sidewalks are built.  This survey addresses roads, sidewalks, crosswalks, and ramps that get you from the road to the sidewalk.

The deadline to take these surveys closes on January 18, 2021.
