How would you use 50 million dollars to improve our community?

Buncombe County leaders want to hear from you! They are looking for public input on how they should invest the estimated 50 million dollars they anticipate receiving from the Federal Government as part of the American Rescue Plan to best help our community recover from the impact of COVID-19.

Here at United Way of Asheville and Buncombe County, we are committed to doing our part to make sure Buncombe County is a community where everyone belongs and everyone thrives. These local Fiscal Recovery Funds represent a once in a generation opportunity to build towards that vision. To get there, we know that critical investments are needed in a range of issues.

We know graduation from high school is a powerful predictor of future success for both the individual and the neighborhood where they live. Closing the opportunity gap for our youth was a critical community issue before the pandemic, and it is even more so now as we discover and recover from the ongoing impacts of this past year.

Our own experience tells us that we need to invest in a host of bold strategies aimed at closing the opportunity gap for our youth. This means making investments in education-- from early childhood through K-12. And it means making investments in those issues that support a strong community like affordable  housing, physical and mental healthcare, transportation, and workforce development.
