United Way of NC, along with leadership from within our statewide NC 2-1-1 system, continue to play an active role in working with Governor Cooper's office and NC Department of Health and Human Services regarding statewide response efforts around Covid-19 (Coronavirus).

While the NC 2-1-1 phone line is not currently being deployed as a tool in the response, our staff is working closely with state leaders, monitoring the situation and will be compiling and verifying information about the response and precautions.

About NC 2-1-1

NC 2-1-1 is an information and referral service provided by United Way of North Carolina. Accessible via an easy-to-remember, three-digit number, families and individuals can call to obtain free and confidential information on health and human services and resources within their community.

Since the early 1970s, United Way of Asheville and Buncombe County has operated an information and referral call center for our area. We currently serve as the call center for a 16 county region in western NC as a part of the NC 2-1-1 statewide system.

Every day people call our line to find the information they need to take care of a number of life issues including food, shelter, energy assistance, housing, parenting resources, healthcare, substance abuse, as well as specific resources for older adults and for persons with disabilities, and much more.

NC 2-1-1 is also a member of the State Emergency Response Team and is part of the State’s Emergency Plan. In the event of a natural or public disaster, NC 2-1-1 is a public information portal for residents to obtain real-time communications and resources related to the disaster.
