2019 Campaign Kickoff

Five lip-sync teams took to the stage on September 20th and engaged in a fierce competition to take home the highly coveted Golden Hairbrush Trophy. This year's Motown theme guaranteed soulful, funky songs that had the whole crowd signing along. And while each team brought their own unique qualities, skills and all around talent, as we all know, there can be only one! For the third year in a row, the uber-talented team from the YWCA (Motown Mable and the South French Broads) took top honors. Congratulations to all the competitors and thank you for providing such fantastic entertainment.

We are so glad you could all join us to kickoff the 2019 fall fundraising campaign. And the key word here is kickoff — this event was the first of many that will take place over the next few months as our community comes together to support the great work being done around the issues of education, income and health. DO YOUR PART by joining family, friends and neighbors as they work to build a stronger community for everyone.

COMMUNITY CONNECTIONS ARE KEY

There are a lot of moving parts to creating this experience and it is with pride that we recognize and thank our partners and sponsors:

  1. WNC Bridge Foundation for their premier sponsorship of this event. Your generosity made this year's event the most successful to date. Thank you!
  2. Asheville Radio Group for providing the world's best emcee, expert judges, on-air event promotion and this year's grand prize of dinner for two and tickets to see the Lumineers (congratulations go out to Ann Ray who won this year's grand prize).
  3. Highland Brewing.
  4. Party Fiesta Fun for hosting this year's photo booth.
  5. Our friends at Wholefoods for catering.
  6. The five amazing teams that competed in this year's competition:
  • YWCA
  • Eaton Corporation
  • United Parcel Service (UPS)
  • Mercy Urgent Care
  • United Way of Asheville and Buncombe County

But most of all we want to thank all of you for coming out and making this such a fun and impactful experience. Remember, this is just the start of campaign season and there's a lot you can do to help our community:

  1. If your employer currently engages in United Way's workplace campaign, make sure to participate. If you own your own business and would like to implement a workplace campaign (like all of the organizations represented on stage), contact kevin.montgomery@unitedwayabc.org.
  2. Make a financial investment in our community
  3. Become a mentor to a local student
  4. Volunteer at a local Homework Diner

Thanks you to the following campaign sponsors:
