2020 Tocqueville Society Community Service Award

Since 1973, United Way Worldwide has recognized individuals who demonstrate extraordinary commitment, leadership, and service, making an impact in their community in positive, life-giving ways.

This year we had the pleasure of awarding Tracy and Scott Buchanan with the Tocqueville Society Community Service Award for their long-standing 24 year and counting dedication and commitment, both financially and in service, throughout Buncombe County-- a breathtaking award created for them by local hand-blown glass creators Lexington Glassworks.

A Commitment to Service Through the Years...

  • Tracy dedicated six years of service on United Way of Asheville and Buncombe County's Board of Directors in two three year terms from 2004-2009. She missed us so much that she renewed her commitment in 2013 and we're honored that she'll be joining us in service again in 2021.
  • Scott has been a steadfast member of our leaders in action Tocqueville Society giving group and helped build a strong partnership amongst our organization with the wonderful WNC Bridge Foundation, which continues to thrive today.
  • Tracy also served as a Loaned Executive Officer during our annual campaign season and executed an impressive flashmob to none other than Michael Jackson's Thriller.
