WE ARE

First Bank has 16 convenient locations throughout WNC and another 90+ across North and South Carolina. We’ve been around since 1935, have a deep commitment to safe and sound business practices, employ more than 1,300 people (several hundred right here in the area), and every dollar banked here stays in the Carolinas.

Like any other financial institution, we have a great suite of personal and business banking products and services, from flexible loans to fraud protection tools. But what really sets us apart comes down to this: We do what’s right because it’s the right thing to do.

This approach has resulted in national and regional recognition as a “best of” bank for families, commercial lending, small businesses, and our communities; and even more importantly, as a best employer. So we’ll keep doing what we do — because it’s all for you. First Bank is a Member FDIC.

OUR VALUES

When First Bank started in 1935, our mission was simple: do good by our community.

As we’ve grown into a large regional bank, our philosophy of doing good has come to include all aspects of ESG, from financial wellness and inclusivity in housing, to innovative lending programs designed for community development. For us, it’s always been about more than banking. Doing good is in our DNA, and after nearly 100 years, we’re expanding and evolving that powerful mission in everything we do with the Power of Good.

WHY UNITED WAY

First Bank has been a long-time proud supporter of the United Way of Asheville and Buncombe County, showing support through grants, donations, and sponsorships, as well as with associates serving as active hands-on volunteers for a number of the organization's impactful initiatives and events like the Youth Wellness Initiative and the NCCC Lodging efforts. Beyond WNC, First Bank has also built partnerships with local United Way chapters throughout the Carolinas, displaying a similarly deep commitment to help our community members thrive, with teams showing up for Hands On days, awards celebrations, and with financial support, too.
