Empowering Dreams: The Bold Community Goal Takes Center Stage at the 2023 Block Party
United Way Worldwide is currently advocating in support of the HELP Act. This is a bipartisan, bicameral bill that would provide capacity-building resources for 988 and 211 to connect more vulnerable individuals and families to local resources. 211, which United Way helps to manage, connected more than 18 million people in need to critical resources last year alone.
This year's School Supply Drive hosted United Way of Asheville and Buncombe County drive showcasing the power of compassion and collaboration, touching the lives of countless students and embarking on a new academic journey.
In the heart of 2023, something truly remarkable happened. A community rallied together in a united effort to ensure that local students had the tools they needed for a successful school year.
Both new and familiar faces trickled onto the field as Journeymen’s Executive Director Skylar Wilson guided students Rowan and Clayton in their attempt to build a campfire. Accompanied by older and younger mentors, Wilson led the group, ensuring smooth facilitation.
For more than 50 years, United Way of Asheville and Buncombe County (UWABC) has operated an information and referral call center, speaking directly to our neighbors as they navigate a life crisis.
The 2022-2023 School year is officially closed! The students enjoy the hot weather and time off; however, for those who work in our Asheville and Buncombe County Schools as staff and administrators, the race to prepare for the 2023-2024 School year has already begun.

The Martin Luther King, Jr. Association of Asheville and Buncombe County, in partnership with the City of Asheville, has planned the 2023 Juneteenth Celebration with the intended outcomes of a diverse celebration that fosters broad participation, fosters community awareness and appreciation, and celebrates the liberation of enslaved people.
The Asheville Chamber of Commerce has been an incredible force in this community for 125 years and for much of their history they have supported the work of so many other nonprofits, including United Way of Asheville and Buncombe County.
So it makes sense that they’d find a way to share the love as they celebrate this milestone. They will award 12, $10,000 grants to local nonprofit organizations at their Celebration event on Sept 28.
